Known as the “stone of prophecy” Prehnite has been revered by shamans and healers for its ability to strengthen intuition and connect with higher realms. It is also believed to have a calming influence and to link the heart with the will. An encouragement to live life in the moment. Prehnite is often associated with the zodiac signs of Libra and Virgo and with the element of Earth.
It was discovered in South Africa, 1788 by A.G. Werner. Werner named it after the Dutch military Colonel Hendrik Von Prehn who was in charge of the region at the time.
Prehnite is a calcium aluminium silicate mineral with an Orthorhombic crystal system. It has a hardness of 6 to 6.5 on the MOH’s scale. It is usually light yellow or green, but can also be seen as white, tan, grey, or colourless.
Some Prehnite exhibits inclusions which look like magical inner worlds. The black inclusions are usually Epidote, black tourmaline or an Amphibole.
